Technical Program Lead - AI/ML Product Development for Climate Solutions
Planet Reimagined is seeking a Technical Program Lead to drive the development of AI/ML-powered climate solutions. This role will define and execute AI-driven software strategies, collaborate with diverse stakeholders (renewable energy, oil & gas, nonprofits, regulators), and lead cross-functional teams to accelerate sustainable innovation.
Work: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Salary Range: $180,000 - 220,000 USD annually

Location: Remote, work US EST hours

About the role
As the Technical Program Lead for Planet Reimagined, your mission will be to define and execute the product vision for AI/ML-driven software solutions supporting Planet Reimagined’s Action Research initiatives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate a high-level product vision into actionable engineering and development requirements, ensuring alignment between user needs, technical execution, and climate impact.
This role requires deep expertise in AI/ML product development, strategic leadership in stakeholder engagement, and a passion for leveraging technology to drive sustainable change. You will collaborate with renewable energy developers, oil and gas industry stakeholders, community-based organizations, and regulatory bodies to shape AI applications that drive engagement with and accelerate the adoption of Planet Reimagined’s innovative climate solutions, such as Common Grounds.
Responsibilities will include:
Technical Leadership: Provide guidance on feature development, system architecture, and technology stack selection to maximize scalability and effectiveness. Execute, prioritize, and lead multiple, complex, rapidly changing programs involving diverse teams. Translate high-level product vision into actionable requirements for program teams.
AI/ML Strategy & Development: Define and manage end-to-end AI/ML solutions that drive efficiency in renewable energy deployment and climate solutions while working to mitigate risk.
Product Execution & Prioritization: Develop roadmaps and prioritize technical development efforts based on user needs, market demand, and risk assessments.
Stakeholder Engagement: Balance and advocate for technical needs, UX improvements, and trade-offs across various stakeholders, including nonprofits, government agencies, and industry leaders.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to AI model adoption, user satisfaction, and project efficiency.
Emerging Trends & Innovation: Stay informed on industry advancements in AI for climate solutions and propose innovative approaches to enhance Planet Reimagined’s impact.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and program managers to align technical execution with climate-related goals.
Qualifications include:
10+ years of experience in software engineering, AI/ML development, systems engineering, or technical product/program management.
Proven track record in developing and deploying AI/ML-powered products in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Experience leading cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, and consultants.
Experience defining strategic direction for technical product development and identifying new opportunities for impact.
Strong communication skills and ability to influence leadership and external partners.
Deep understanding of AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) relevant to AI-driven climate solutions.
Experience with data analytics, geospatial analysis, and energy modeling tools (e.g., ArcGIS, OpenEnergy, PowerBI) is a plus.
Ability to drive multiple complex projects simultaneously while balancing stakeholder needs and technological feasibility.
Prior experience in climate technology, renewable energy, or sustainability initiatives strongly preferred.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Resident with Authorization to Work
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in nonprofits, social impact organizations, or environmental agencies.
Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks for AI in climate and energy sectors.

Salary and Benefits
The targeted salary range for this position is $180,000-220,000, depending on location/cost of living and experience. Additional benefits include paid time off, flexible working hours, and a remote but highly collegial working environment.
