Mayumi Sato

River Delta Advisor

Mayumi Sato is a PhD student at the University of Cambridge, National Geographic Explorer, and was a Planet Reimagined New Futures Fellow in 2024. She is a researcher focusing on the intersections between global environmental justice and land stewardship. Most recently, her work with Planet Reimagined brought her to the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Herein, she examined the Delta's environmental challenges in agriculture, fisheries, and trade due to climate change, urbanization, and transboundary environmental degradation. She is interested in continuing this work by highlighting the role of and safeguarding healthy rivers in supporting livelihoods, cultural survival, local knowledge systems, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. In her free time, she enjoys running and hiking, and learning new languages.
