Giancarlo Bonagura

Strategic Financial Advisor

Giancarlo is an experienced senior-level executive with over 20 years of expertise in finance and operations, having served in various government and education institutions. Most recently, he was the Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer at the New York Academy of Sciences.

Prior to that, he served as the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Mind Brain and Behavior Institute, a multidisciplinary start-up neuroscience institute at Columbia University. He also held roles as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Finance and Administration at Hunter College and as Chief Financial Officer at NYU School of Law.

Before transitioning to higher education, Giancarlo held several government positions, including Deputy Commissioner at the NYC Department of Transportation, where he established the agency’s first performance management group. He also served in various roles at the NYC Office of Management and Budget (OMB), overseeing budgets for multiple city agencies, including the Department of Transportation, the Department of Sanitation, and the Fire Department.

Giancarlo grew up in NYC and played in a number of ska bands growing up.  He still plays bass guitar in his leisure and enjoys hanging with his son and best buddy Marcello.
